Green Schoolyard Grant Resources

In April, 2024, LAUSD released its Green Schools for All Plan, in response to the Green Schools for All Resolution, passed by the School Board in 2022. This details the district’s priorities to green all schools by 30% with 20% shade canopy by 2025. See where your school is on the greening index which will determine when it will receive greening by the district. Since it will take several years for the district to reach all schools, schools can also proactively green their campuses. See below for more information.

  • Beautification Bulletin 5761.0

Beautification Bulletin 5761.0 allows schools to improve open areas of their school that are dirt or grass without any LAUSD fees. These areas can be improved with trees, shrubs, and plants. Projects that have less than 50 cubic yards of soil disturbance or 10 cubic yards of soil export, will not require soil testing. The principal asks the CPM to initiate the process and the CPM manages the project. More information on the bulletin here. An example Beautification Bullet project here.

  • LAUSD SEEDS Grant

The SEEDS program provides funding to enhance and/or create outdoor healthy and sustainable learning environments that support LAUSD’s curriculum. Schools are eligible to receive up to a $100,000 - $150,000 for design, infrastructure improvements, and installation of landscaping materials for their project. Schools can either partner with an organization, landscape archtecture firm, or LAUSD can provide design services.

Talk to your principal about the need for greening, outdoor learning, and shade in your schoolyard. Principals can advocate to their School Board member to receive greening money through Region or School Board Priority project funding.
